German Language in Palestine
Students of the BA German Language study the German language up to the B2 level and take courses in German Literature, German Media, Regional Studies and Didactics and Methods of Teaching German as a Foreign Language. The programme offers the possibility to take German as a major or a minor.
The BA degree in German Language will not only enable the graduates to work as teachers at schools, universities (after having pursued an MA degree), the Goethe-Institut and other language institutes, but also opens up job opportunities in the field of international cooperation, industry, tourism and translation. There are scholarship opportunities for Summer Language Courses and Master Programmes in Germany or 3rd countries.
Since January 2017, the DAAD is funding a German Studies Partnership with the Herder Institute at Leipzig University in order to further develop the BA programme and subsequently establish the first German Department in Palestine at Birzeit University. As part of this cooperation, annual workshops in Birzeit and Leipzig take place, as well as regular exchange of teachers and students.
